PE & Sports Funding

The Sports Premium Grant is money provided directly to primary schools to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for children. The sports funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools, which have the freedom to choose how they do this. Every school is given a lump sum and additional payments based on pupil numbers.

Mary Tavy and Brentor Primary School use the premium to:
1. To improve the quality of PE already in place in school.

2. To ensure that all pupils improve their health, sports skills, emotional well-being and physical aptitude.

3. To increase participation levels in both extracurricular and competitive sport, involving pupil teams
4. To give all pupils an opportunity to experience a wide range of sporting activities throughout the year.

5. Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.

The National Curriculum aims are for all children:

  • To be physically active, working towards a target of 30 minutes' activity during and after the school day (excluding general playtimes)

  • To excel in a broad range of activities

  • To engage in competition

  • To lead healthy lifestyles

Tag Rugby Festival

Our awesome athletes demonstrated a range of athletic skills when competing at a local tag rugby event. We are incredibly proud of how respectful and supportive our athletes are at all times and the way they conduct themselves. We entered two teams and both placed well.

Cross Country Event

Our Cross Country Team from years 3,4,5 and 6 participated in three cross country races at different locations. All of our athletes demonstrated our core values showing 'perseverance' when tackling tricky hill climbs and uneven moor conditions as well as being 'aspirational' in trying to beat their personal bests at the different locations. Our year 3/4 boys team and our year 5/6 girls team placed second overall. Many of our athletes finished within the top 10 runners, with two of our athletes finishing an amazing second.

New PE Equipment

Our school council requested new PE equipment to support the teaching of PE and to use at break times. Thanks to our PTFA we have been able to resource lots of brilliant new equipment including new balls, goals, netball hoops and bibs.
