Extra-Curricular Activities
After-school activities are designed to match the interests and aptitudes of all pupils. This term the school offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities, including:
Clubs are run after school by school staff and assisted by parents or by qualified coaches. We have extended the club times to finish at 16:30 to make this more convenient for parents/carers.
Our prefects run lunchtime clubs which the children sign up to in school. Our Hub is also open for children daily.
The artists at Mary Tavy are enjoying their Art club. We have been looking at the life and work of Picasso, followed by a game of Roll a Picasso.
Our amazing athletes in Yrs 3 and 4 took part in a Tavistock Schools football tournament. They embodied our school values of Collaboration, Perseverance, Respect and Aspiration and we have received feedback from specators as to how well behaved and determined they were and above all how kind and supportive they were of each other as a Team. As a very small school to get a Silver place against teams from the larger primaries in the Tavistock area some who fielded 2 or 3 teams is an incredible achievement and we rightfully incredibly proud - well done to our amazing athletes and ambassadors we are so proud of you all .
Inspired by our Running Coach Mr Neale’s assembly on his incredible achievement completing the London Marathon in under 3 hours, our very own amazing athletes entered into the Virtual London Children’s marathon. The children ran the 2.6mile course from School to Perter Tavy and back again. With the first wave completing it in under 30minutes. As a school we cheered them off and welcomed them on their return. What an incredible achievement !!
Thank you for all your support in making our Mental Health awareness day today such a success. It is so important for ALL of us and it is important that we support our children and young people to understand that we need to label and understand our thoughts and feelings in order to be mentally healthy. In school we are opening up these conversations calmly and confidently encouraging the children to understand that mental health is something we all have, and that we should be aware of it and learn skills to look after it. Importantly, we have been teaching the children they can also ask for help when they need support. We believe it is vitally important that they understand how there can be changes in their bodies which are connected to their feelings and thoughts. For example, when our heart beats very quickly after we have been running, the same is true when we are nervous or scared. Please ensure that you ‘check in’ regularly with your child/ren to chat with them and ask the opening questions to help them talk about their mental health and to ensure that they know who they can talk to when they are feeling worried, anxious, uncomfortable about something. It is imperative that children know who to talk to and to ask for help when they need it. Please do not hesitate to come and chat to me if you are worried about your child or yourself. You as parents/carers are the primary care givers and your mental health is as important. If you need support or are worried and need signposting for help do not hesitate to pick up the phone or speak to me on the gate and we can have a cup of tea and a chat – my door is always open to anyone in our MTB community and everyone and everything matters however small or large– we are here for you,
